Forest Park Highlands — the mere name is enough to thrill St. Louians of a certain age. The beloved Comet roller coaster, the soaring Aero Jets, a fantastical row of funhouse mirrors — just some of the dozens of rides and games the entertained visitors for generations. (The park’s carousel is still in operation at Faust Park.) Alas, the fun came to an end when a massive fire swept through the park in 1963, destroying buildings and melting rides, closing the gates at Forest Park Highlands forever.
