Grandpa Pidgeon’s was a true discount store that kept its prices down by skipping all the frills. It was founded in 1954 by Tom and Mildred Pidgeon in Bridgeton, Missouri. You could find good deals on anything ranging from clothing, jewelry, electronics, furniture and housewares. Instead of glossy and colorful circulars, Grandpa’s was known for using black ink on brown paper advertisements. The business was sold in 1999.
